Hailed by the New York Times as playing with “vitality and gusto” Sophia Anastasia has become a much sought after concert flutist and educator throughout the New York metropolitan area, and now here in Asheville, NC. Her Carnegie Hall debut, in conjunction with the release of her debut solo album Musing, launched her into the forefront of the concert flutist world. She has won countless local and national flute competitions and continues to perform with orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout North America and abroad.

Dr. Anastasia is the founding member of the critically acclaimed “Electrum Duo,” a flute and percussion chamber ensemble. She has commissioned many works for flute including pieces by Gary Schocker, James Romig, Christian McLeer, Robert Maggio and Maurice Wright, to name a few. Her commission “Xynoglyko” by Gary Schocker was featured at the Nation Flute Convention, and on WFMT radio. She regularly presents her ‘Flute FUNdamentals’ workshops to public and private schools.

Dr. Anastasia has a Doctorate of Musical Arts from SUNY Stonybrook, a Masters of Music and Professional Studies degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelor of Arts from Montclair State University in Flute Performance and Music Education. She is also a certified Yoga teacher, and a Music Together early childhood music specialist.

Sophia is a classical flutist and flute teacher living in Asheville, NC. She and her husband have three children and one adorable dog. She loves gardening, reading, watching cute cat and dog videos on Instagram, teaching at a preschool, taking her dog on long walks, practicing daily yoga, and being involved with her kids; helping them with homework, instrument practice, and watching their sporting events. Fun facts: Sophia has lived in China. She once had 25 pet chickens, and is a trained yoga teacher.
